Between preparing for class, teaching your course, and doing your own research, you and your students might feel stretched for time. While we can't add hours to the clock, SAGE Research Methods (SRM) can help you quickly access valuable tools to aid in the teaching and learning of research methods. Plan each research step with Project Planner. Project Planner guides users through every step of the research process with short, engaging entries and links to relevant content on the platform. University of Durham emeritus professor, David Byrne, created the platform after decades of supervising student research. Students can move through the online process chronologically or receive assistance with particular steps, while instructors and advisors can direct their students to Project Planner or add the link to their syllabi. Access hundreds of video tutorials via SAGE Research Methods Video. Another time-saving resource is SAGE Research Methods Video, which expertly matches research methods and statistics curricula. Drawing from hundreds of video tutorials on topics such as introductory statistics, running focus groups, or designing surveys, students can fi nd help whenever it fi ts their schedules. The videos can be fully embedded into most learning management systems (LMS) like Blackboard and Moodle, making it easy to assign video to students to watch before class to stimulate discussion or to incorporate during class. Use Reading Lists to compile and hyperlink additional resources. One of the most used SRM tools is Reading Lists, which allows you to compile a reading list at the book or chapter level and embed that hyperlinked list directly into your LMS. "Lists were convenient for me to gather the resources I was fi nding," says Urszula Strawinska-Zanko, an assistant professor of confl ict resolution at Nova Southeastern University. "I upload specifi c chapters or articles that I want my students to access to my list, and I give [them] the link to the list. It is a reliable way of providing my students with access to electronic resources." Show research in action with Cases and Datasets. SRM's Cases and Datasets can serve as ready-made lesson plans, the backbone of stats lab sessions, or as homework assignments in qualitative or quantitative methods courses. In addition to cases, downloadable sample datasets are accompanied by how-to guides that give students hands-on practice analyzing data. "Data is everywhere," notes Thomas M. Carsey, who lectures on data analysis at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, "but clean, accessible, organized, and well-documented data is much harder to fi nd." Go beyond preparing for your course. SRM doesn't just help students. "In addition to using [it] in my teaching," explains Diane Hirshberg, professor of education policy at the University of Alaska Anchorage, "I also use SAGE Research Methods myself when writing the methodology section of grant proposals." As the only digital source providing the full collection of the Quantitative Applications in the Social Sciences series, otherwise known as the Little Green Books, you can access SRM to inspire students or refresh your own knowledge of methodological options.
